Three ways to compost for anyone; cmposting is easy!!!

Food Scraps

Composting is the best and easiest way to get rid of your food and kitchen waste, but many people think composting is too hard to do but there are ways to do it easily and effectively.

Here are some ways to compost without breaking your back:-

1. In-ground composting:-

This is the easiest way to compost. Just dig up a pit in your garden put all your organic waste in it, as simple as that. Its best to have a deeper pit and as you fill it up, add a thin layer of soil on top of it just to cover the food scraps, add your old potting soil which is of no use any more, when the pit is filled three fourth of the way close it with a lot more soil and create a mount on it because as it decomposes the volume shrinks eventually it will at ground level. You can actually plant something in it by the time the plant reaches three fourth of the pit the scraps will be composted, but don't plant any root crop as they won't have a proper shape to it and don't plant directly in the food scraps the plant won't grow.

2. Container Composting:-

This is same as the previous one but in a container, everyone doesn't have a plot for compost or to grow their food right, this is when containers come in handy. Fill a container with your food waste maybe half or three fourth and cover it with some soil. As it decomposes the soil shrinks, so what I do is add some more food scraps on top of it and cover it with mulch, the mulch acts as brown material, if you mess up a little bit in this process it will start stinking. Another important thing to do is add something on the bottom, as it decomposes the liquid that comes out of it or the compost tea needs to be collected but I don't do this instead, I just add coconut husk or something that absorbs a lot of water so that it absorbs all the compost tea and retains it but when it rains you have to be careful and cover it or else the compost tea will dissolve and will just run off and stain your floor. Even in this method, you can plant a plant right away, don't plant root plant and don't plant directly in the food scraps.

3. Spot composting:-

Throw your scaps on the soil and let nature take over, this may sound gross and it is gross, sometimes it may have maggots, black soldier fly larva, isopods, springtails etc., but its all part of nature. If you put it on a sunny spot it will dry and stays there and as you add more and more ones on below the surface starts decomposing. If you are really lazy this is the way to go.

You can also make your own composter, this can be anything which you like it should hold your food waster, able to collect the compost tea, prevent any pest from entering and should be aerated. You can design it however you like, it can even be a 5-gallon bucket. It is a one-time investment and its worth it.
